This guide explains how to select an appropriate prize amount for your contest. All minimum and recommended amounts found in this guide are an extension of those found in the DesignContest.net prize table (the Table). Any inconsistencies between the Table and this guide should be interpreted in favor of this guide.
Before consulting the remainder of this guide, please make absolutely sure that your contest is not listed in the prize table. The table covers many of the common contests, including the following:
Icon sets
An icon may take anywhere from one hour
to several hours to create. It depends on how specific you are about
what you need, and how complicated the icon needs to be. A good icon is
somewhat like a logo, albeit without a company. It's important not to
underestimate the effort involved.
Web graphics
This includes all small/medium-size
website images such as banners, custom buttons, headers, and splash
pages. The prize should be relative to the size of the image, and its
complexity.
Consult the prize table for the first page. For each additional page, consider whether the page looks the same or different from the one(s) already created. Unique pages take more time and creativity, and thus they are worth more. Designers will naturally expect to see this reflected in the prize.
If you wish to start a contest that is not covered in this guide, please contact our contest administrator (the Admin). Please also note that any contest requested without consulting either this guide, the Table, or the Admin may be postponed by DesignContest.net until such time that the prize is corrected or the contest is canceled.
